I read and was involved in a conversation around George Kinder’s book, A Golden Civilization and The Map of Mindfulness.
I found both experiences to be life enhancing and empowering. In the months since, I have found the experience of living the VISION of a Golden Civilization I had helped to create in that conversation to be mind-blowing!
I have been very cynical and unhappy about this country and the world, for a long time but felt completely powerless about what I could do. However upon reflection, the first thing I learned was that I had to let my entrenched cynicism go in order to see and feel any other possibility we might have. I discovered that MY attitude was almost as corrupt as all the features of society/civilization that I saw. Then, I learned that I could approach life and living as an innocent. As just opening my eyes to the prospect of being and living differently and creatively.
Why can’t I live as if civilization was exactly as I wanted it to be, a Golden Civilization? This led to the experience (internally and externally) of the possible, and also of the glaring problems there are. By helping others, and being kind to everyone, I am a living invitation for others to do the same!
The internal work had to proceed the external work, and now the internal work (daily meditation) allows and supports the outer. Freedom, Creativity, Openness, Love and Letting Go are all benefits of this experience.
