Today, the Golden Civilization team led a kick off call with students from Coventry University who were inspired by George’s keynote speech and breakout Golden Civilization Conversation last month and interested in hosting their own conversation next semester!
The Golden Civilization community is eager to show their support and we at headquarters wanted to host a call aimed at sharing information and offering resources to the students. In attendance were staff facilitators, Lora Woodward and Natalie Bonetti, Golden Civilization Conversation Mentor, Adam Wells, and Coventry Students Ashley, Duarte, and Nandish.
Adam opened the kick off call with his personal experience co-hosting his own Golden Civilization Conversation with George and being a part of Julian Powe’s ongoing conversation at Primrose Hill in London. After sharing his own method for publicizing the event, which involved sending an email blast to everyone he knew as well spreading the word verbally, Adam gave the group the following advice:
In the first meeting, really focus on taking away the obstacles to gain trust and energize any skeptics that might be hesitant to contribute
Aim to diversify your group because each brings different insight, for example, younger generations feel more energized by the idea of change within a generation, while older generations might have more experience to help get us there
Building trust is the key to working as an ongoing group moving forward
Try to set a goal and a reasonable deadline to keep everyone motivated and make the actions and commitments real.
The Golden Civilizations team has some resources available for anyone interested in hosting A Golden Civilization Conversation. We invite you all to take a look and please reach out if you are interested in leading a Conversation, or have been leading one you would like to tell us about.

The Coventry students came away with the following goals and a plan to host their conversation in February 2020.
Nandish: I want to spread the word and increase awareness of the movement; George Kinder is out there and his work is aimed to benefit many--a noble deed.
Ashley: I want to make sure that the conversation leaders have access to the Investment Society’s resources to help make this happen, I will loop in people that couldn’t make the call and see if they would like to be a part of this facilitating group
Duarte: I will approach the student union and other groups about getting conversations started in order to help gain momentum and increase attendance at the conversation.
